We need your donation to make our event a success!
In the past two years, three important research projects in Spinocerebellar Ataxia 2 (SCA2) have been funded by the National Ataxia
Foundation (NAF) to understand the normal biological function of the ataxin-2 protein which will help scientists understand why the altered
protein leads to the development of SCA2, the disease that Joe suffered from. These studies are aimed at designing new therapies to delay or
prevent the progress of ataxia in individuals affected by SCA2. The cost for these studies were between $16,000 and $30,000 each and provided
information so that more research can expand on those findings. Any size contribution made to research funding, when added together with other
contributions, will make more research happen and bring us closer to a cure.
Joe made the ultimate donation by donating his brain tissue to research. Maybe someday the
scientists will be able to find a way to help others with Ataxia through Joe's generous donation and your contribution to the
2011 Central Texas IAAD
and 3rd Annual Walk 'n Roll.
Whether you attend, participate or donate, your involvement is crucial to the success of the event.
All donations will go to the National Ataxia Foundation and are tax deductible
